Why I chose this book

I chose this book because I honestly did not have no choice. At first, I took this book from the library because they did not have the book that I wanted. Therefore, I had to read this book. And honestly, I really liked it. I know from experience that books are better than the movies, but I never taught of it like that when I chose the book.

Present your Novel

I am going to present to you the book Matilda. The Norwegian author Roald Dahl wrote Matilda. The book Matilda is about a 5-year old girl whose name is Matilda. Matilda is the daughter of the Wormwoods. She has one older brother. Matilda starts at a school where the Principal Ms. Trunchbull is. Matilda’s teacher is a sweet and lovely woman, Ms. Honey. The book is about Matilda, Ms. Honey and Ms. Trunchbull. Matilda finds out that Trunchbull is the aunt of Ms. Honey and that Trunchbull has murdered Ms. Honey father, and take the entire heir and the house that was meant to be for Ms. Honey. So now, Matilda makes a plan to get Trunchbull out of the house, so that Ms. Honey can get her house and wealth back. The book ends with Ms. Honey adopting Matilda, because her father is caught for selling corrupt cars. Therefore, he has to flee the country.

Characterization

The main characters in this book is Matilda, Ms. Honey and Ms. Trunchbull. In addition, the side characters are Mr. Wormwood, Mrs. Wormwood, Michael and Lavender.

 Matilda Wormwood – Matilda is a 5-year old girl whose parents does not really care for her. Even though Matilda is only 5 years old, she has already learned how to take care of herself. Everyday Matilda’s brother goes off to school, her mother goes to play bingo and her father gets to work. Matilda is a very smart girl. She can multiply with big numbers. She could read grown up books at age of five. Matilda is an extra ordinary child.

 

 

Ms. Honey – Ms. Honey is Matilda’s teacher. Ms. Honey had a lovely pale oval face with blue eyes. Her hair was light - brown. Her body was slim and fragile that one got the feeling that if she fell she would break into thousands of pieces, like a porcelain figure. She loves all children and she is not strict at all, she did not even raise her voice and she had this one gift. The gift was that all of the children loved her. Ms. honey is the niece of the gruesome Ms. Trunchbull.

 

 

Ms. Trunchbull – Ms. Trunchbull is the principal of the school Matilda is attending. Trunchbull is one of the biggest person’s the kids at that school has seen. She is a fierce tyrannical monster who frightens the life out of the pupils and the teachers too. Trunchbull used to attend the Olympics in sledgehammer and spear throwing.  Trunchbull is always looking to punish somebody. If she does not know who did it. She would just guess and as weird as that sounds she guesses the person who did do something wrong.

 Mr. Wormwood - Mr. Wormwood is a small ratty-looking person whose teeth stuck out underneath a thin ratty moustache. He likes to wear jackets with large brightly colored checks and a sports tie with that. The ties were usually pale green or yellow. Mr. Wormwood is the proud owner of Wormwood motors. He is a corrupt car dealer. What he does is that he buys half-wrecked cars and sells it for higher price. He first does put on some new bumpers, turns back the km meter to about 50 000 and then sells it.

Mrs. Wormwood – Mrs. Wormwood is a large woman who has dyed her hair platinum blonde. You can see her brown hair that is growing out from the roots. She wears heavy-makeup. In addition, she has one of them figures where all the fresh appears to be strapped in all around the body to prevent it from falling out.

Summary of some of the events in the novel

First Summary

It was the first day of school. Every pupil was out in the playground playing and waiting for the principal to come out. Ms. Trunchbull cam outside, inspecting everybody until she saw one girl named, Amanda Tripp. Amanda Tripp was a small girl with blonde long hair. Trunchbull walk over to Amanda. I forgot to mention it earlier, that Trunchbull never walked, she always used to march. Now back to Amanda Tripp. Amanda came to school with her hair plaited into pigtails. Pigtails was one of the many things Trunchbull hated. Trunchbull was now standing over Amanda, shouting o her that she wants those filthy pigtails off before she comes to school tomorrow. Amanda said ’’But my mommy likes them’’. When Trunchbull heard ‘’but’’, she took a hold of Amanda pigtails, and started swinging Amanda round and round her head, faster and faster. She was swinging her so fast that she became a blur. Trunchbull let her pigtails go, and Amanda was flying across the schoolyard. Amanda was so close to landing on top of the fence. She touched ground and stood up like nothing ever happened, she just shook it off. Trunchbull marched away, mumbling to herself ‘’Not bad at all, I am not even training hard for the moment’’.

Second Summary

One day Mr. Wormwood came home from work, very happy. He called for his son and asked him to bring a pencil and a piece of paper. They sat down at the dining table where Matilda was reading her book. Mr. Wormwood started to tell Michael about the sales he had made today and told him to add it all together. Michael was using a lot of time adding all the big numbers up so Matilda just shouted out the answer. Matilda’s father checked the answer and started shouting at her. He said to her that she was a little cheat and that she looked at the paper. ‘’ I am sitting on the other side of the table, how can I possibly look at the paper’’ Matilda said. ‘’Are you being smart with me? When a person is a cheat they have to be punished’’ Mr. Wormwood said. When he said a person have to punished, it gave Matilda the idea that she could also punish her father. The next morning, Matilda went into her parents and mothers room while they were asleep. She went to their bathroom and found her father’s hair oil and her mother’s platinum blonde hair dye. She mixed them both in the hair oil and left their room. Later that morning Matilda, Michael and Mrs. Wormwood was in the kitchen having breakfast. Mrs. Wormwood was preparing Mr. Wormwood’s breakfast. Mr. Wormwood came into the kitchen and Michael looked on him, he dropped the spoon he had in his hand on the floor and just sat there with his mouth open looking at his father’s hair. Mrs. Wormwood turned around holding a trey with her and Mr. Wormwood’s breakfast. She saw his hair and put out a scream with her hands going up in the air, the trey along with her hands. ‘’What have you done with your hair?’’ She asked him. ‘’I have done nothing, what are you talking about’’ he said walking to the bathroom. He stood in front of the mirror and as soon as he saw himself in the mirror, he fainted.

What I liked about the novel

To be honest, I loved every part of this novel. Even though this is a kids’ book, this is one of the best books I have read. Its language is so simple. Everybody who can read can read this book. The way the author wrote this book just makes you just read on and do not stop until you are finished. Like I read this book in just some hours. This is a book that I would recommend for everybody.
